raising brothers

The fog rolled in early tonight.  Even while the sky above the tree line was light, the fields were dark and shadowed with the fog.  The boys ran out to explore the fog at my suggestion and disappeared into a world of friendship that shows up only periodically around here.  They seem to want to be friends, but the drive to compete is so strong and the younger is sensitive-- so different from the older.

Raising daughters to be friends has been easy.  They love on each other.  They laugh and giggle and imagine.  They play dolls and have tea parties.  They lay in bed at night and talk and laugh and sing and pray.  I never had to tell them how- the three of them.  They're life friends already.

Maybe it's because they were created together.  Born friends.

Or maybe it's because God made her a peace maker, a gentle spirit and a kind heart.  Or maybe it's just that they're girls.

I don't know, but today I loved watching my boys hurry off into the fog, best friends if only for an hour :).
